So, what exactly is Montessori? This school style was started in the early 20th century by Dr. Maria Montessori. In 1906, Dr. Montessori was invited to Rome to work with around 60 children between the ages of 2 and 7. This would become the very first Casa. As she worked with the kids, she began to make observations about the way they learned and grew. After perfecting her method, she then began to work with teachers to show them how to encourage independence in children.
Over the years, Montessori has worked to mold some of the greatest minds we know of today. Historical figures who have benefited from the style include Prince William and Harry, Julia Child, and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, among countless others. Today, it’s considered one of the best ways to help your child gain independence as they prepare for elementary school.
Montessori Children’s Centre was founded in 1997 by Barbara Broach and her daughter, Amy Broach Moser. Just a few years later, Barbara’s daughter-in-law, Rachel, joined the team. Over the decades, the center has recruited a team of passionate experts who adore working alongside children to help them on their learning journey. Not only are they incredibly knowledgeable in their field, but they also receive regular CPR and First Aid training to ensure your child is always in good hands.

Montessori Children’s Centre provides classes for kids ages 3-5. You will be able to choose between several different options. If you do need full-time care, you will be able to choose enrollment for five days a week. For those who only want to do part-time, the school offers classes for two or three days each week. In order to attend, your child must be fully potty-trained. Because it is a popular option, they often have a waitlist, so if you are interested, be sure to sign up right away!
So, what can you expect from your child’s regular school day? Your child will be placed into one of three classrooms, each with twenty students. There will be two teachers in each classroom who will be there to assist your child and guide them through lessons. They have created a family-like environment designed to give your child a comfortable space where they can explore. Each day, your child will be introduced to lessons based on several topics. These include practical life, mathematics, culture, and grace and courtesy. The teachers work to make these lessons sensorial. Essentially, they will take the time to get to know your wonderful kiddo so they can base the lessons on their unique learning style.

Practical Life
The school works with kids to turn them into confident learners ready to navigate the world by themselves. During practical life lessons, your child is going to learn everyday skills like how to pour food into a bowl, how to zip up their zippers, how to set a table, how to tie their shoes, and how to get snacks for themselves. Trust me, you are going to quickly start noticing the difference each day as they come home!
Mathematics
This is going to go above and beyond counting! The school is going to work with your child to learn math in a hands-on way. They start out with concrete concepts and then move to advanced concepts as your child catches on. It will give your child a solid foundation once elementary school starts.

Culture
Throughout these lessons, your child is going to get the opportunity to explore the world around them. They are going to discover geography, traditions, and histories of brand new places. In the process, they are going to become more empathetic and curious kids ready to work within a community.
Grace and Courtesy
In addition to the academic lessons, your child is going to learn how to interact with people. This will include how to use manners, how to be kind, and how to treat people with respect.
By taking a holistic approach to learning, your child is going to build up their confidence. By the time they graduate from the classes, they are going to be prepared for kindergarten as well as everything that comes next!

While your child is definitely going to benefit from the regular lessons, the Montessori Children’s Centre also finds ways to make school more engaging. Throughout the year, they will get to participate in countless special events that incorporate the curriculum. Students will experience cultural celebrations, put on special performances, learn foreign language basics, and celebrate different holidays. With so many different opportunities, your child will always have something new to look forward to!
The school also works with parents to involve them throughout every step. You will be in constant communication with the school, so you will know how your child is progressing. You can count on weekly newsletters, progress reports, parent/teacher conferences, and daily messages!
If you have been looking for a space where your child can get the best start on their education, I think you are going to adore Montessori Children’s Centre. This school offers classes that will turn your child into a confident and independent scholar!
