Southwind Park

4965 S 2nd Street, Springfield, Illinois 62703

Southwind Park is a seriously scenic space that has so much to offer year-round. Across the 80 acres in Springfield, IL, you can find sports courts, fishing piers, a sensory garden, playgrounds, and a walking trail. There’s even a gazebo perfect for your family pictures! They offer two different playgrounds, with the main area serving as a barrier-free spot for children of all abilities. With equipment for kids ages 18 months to 10 years, your child will always have a great spot to play! 

Washington Park

1501 South Grand West, Springfield, Illinois 62704

Washington Park is a giant space with no limit on things to do. Located in the midst of the quiet and historic neighborhoods, this park gives you 150 acres to explore. You can spend an afternoon fishing or head out to the outdoor ice rink. Take a long ride on the bike path and stop into the bike repair station in case you need a quick tune-up. The playground is located in a shady area with equipment perfect for kids of all ages. They also put accessible bathrooms right next to the playplace to avoid potential accidents.

Centennial Park

5751 Bunker Hill Road, Springfield, Illinois 62711

Centennial Park is a 190-acre park that has been a staple in the community for nearly 30 years. No matter the season, this playground is a Springfield, IL favorite. During the snowy days of winter, you can catch kids tearing down the 100-foot hill on sleds. Once the temps start to warm, you can go for a hike on the nature trails, test out your skills on the tennis courts, or spend some time at the playground. The play area is located just off Bunker Hill with equipment ideal for kids under the age of 10! 

Comer Cox Park

301 Martin Luther King Dr, Springfield, Illinois 62703 

If you are looking for something a little more low-key, Comer Cox Park might just be your ideal spot! This park is located on 6 acres, but it packs a lot of adventure across that space. They feature a pump track for bikes, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a splash pad. There are two distinct playgrounds. On the north end of the park, there’s a smaller area with just two slides and a swingset. The Adventure Playground tends to be the more popular option, offering a climbing wall, a roundabout, slides, and more! 

Lindbergh Park

2419 Lindbergh Boulevard, Springfield, Illinois 62704

Lindbergh Park is one of my favorite playgrounds when it comes to entertaining smaller Springfield, IL kids. This lot is located on 16 acres and features 2 baseball fields, 2 soccer fields, and a tennis court. The playground area is located right next to a 15-vehicle lot as well as the picnic areas. The equipment itself was created for kids of all abilities with low-to-the-ground pedestals and ramps leading to each new level. They also have climbing areas and swings.

Dreamland Park

2300 Taylor Avenue, Springfield, Illinois 62703

Dreamland Park is a picturesque space located on 10 acres. This park is a little less flashy than some of the other options, making it ideal for a laid-back morning with your child. They have a fishing pond nestled to open fields, and there are picnic tables and shelters all across the lot. The playground area was designed for kids ages 3-8 and has benches around the perimeter so you can sit back and watch your child. 

Rotary Park

4501 West Iles Avenue, Springfield, Illinois 62711

Rotary Park lies on top of 40 acres, right on the southwest end of town. It’s become a favorite for its quiet walking paths and well-maintained baseball field. Their playground is a great option for younger Springfield, IL kids, offering ramps, small climbing walls, and large walkways, so that even toddlers can navigate with ease. It is also next to open fields, giving your child plenty of ways to get out all their energy. 

Kiwanis Park

3050 Stanton Drive, Springfield, Illinois 62703 

Kiwanis Park is located on 10 acres next to the Mary Bryant Home for the Blind. The swings tend to be the hottest feature here, with recent additions for kids of all ages and abilities. The playground is ideal for toddlers and preschoolers looking for a safe space to climb and explore. There are ramps leading up to slides with a small sail adding a little extra shade.

Gehrmann Park

1000 N 2nd Street, Springfield, Illinois 62702

Gehrmann Park is a historic spot on 3 lovely acres. Located in North Springfield, IL in the midst of quiet neighborhoods, this playground still offers a ton of activities for kids. Your child will be able to choose between swings, winding slides, climbing walls, and monkey bars. While I think every child will love this spot, it tends to be best for kids ages 4 and up. 

Duncan Park

500 N. MacArthur, Springfield, Illinois 62702

If you have a kid who loves nothing more than orchestrating their great escape, Duncan Park might just be your spot! This historic space features a gate running all across the perimeter to ensure your child can stay within your sight. The equipment features slides, monkey bars, swings, and a zipline. You can also check out music at the bandshell or try a game of pickleball over on the court.
