Between you, me, and the carnage on the playroom floor, your child has a lot of energy. Maybe just a little too much energy. If you need the perfect way to keep them entertained without your home being destroyed, I would love to introduce you to the Peoria Playhouse. As a Peoria milestone photographer, I love working with parents to make every season a little extra memorable. Here is why I adore this spot so much!

About the Peoria Playhouse

2218 North Prospect Road, Peoria, Illinois 61603

Peoria Playhouse is a dream that was over 10 years in the making. For a decade, the volunteers behind the Junior League of Peoria worked to find a way to open up a children’s museum where families all across Central Illinois could come and make memories. They met with the Peoria Zoological Society as well as the Peoria Park District to create the Power of Play campaign to drum up public interest. The center finally opened its doors in 2015 next to the Peoria Zoo and the Luthy Botanical Garden. With all of these locations, you are in for an entire day filled with adventures!

The Peoria Playhouse Experience

The Peoria Playhouse features three floors with activities for every child. Their permanent, hands-on exhibits will help your child learn without them even realizing it! Down on the lower level, your child can make shadows over at the Light Wall, put on a play at the Theatre, try out experiments in the Sci-Lab, or learn about gravity at Motion Commotion. This level additionally features a speciality toddler area where younger visitors can safely play with age-appropriate displays.

The main level gives your child the chance to explore Peoria from the past through the present. They can learn about ancient creatures over at Fossils Rock or make up harvest-fresh meals over at the Family Farm. The upper level is ideal for kids who love to work with their hands. They can make creations with the KEVA Planks and race robots over at the Cubelets station. Truly, this museum has something for all ages!
